Transferring a domain can often seem stressful at first, but it doesn’t have to be. In this guide, you’ll find the information necessary to transfer a domain name out of Weebly’s platform and into Google Domains.
Step 1: Start Transfer into Google Domains
- Visit Google Domains (https://domains.google.com/registrar). If you do not already have a Google Domains account, you’ll need to set one up.
- On the left-hand side, select Transfer in.
- Type in your domain name in the text box with placeholder text “mydomain.com” and press continue.
Step 2: Unlock Domain in Weebly
You’ll now be asked to unlock your domain and get the authorization code. Use the following steps (from Weebly’s official site) to unlock and get the code:
1. Head over to your Domains tab, and click on the domain name you’re planning to transfer.
2. You’ll now see all of the various options for managing your domain name and related services like email. Go ahead and click on the “Disable” link under the Registrar Lock icon.
3. That’s all there is to it – your EPP authorization code will appear right next to the link. Change your mind? Don’t panic – you can reactivate the lock and hide the EPP code just as easily by clicking on the Enable link.
Step 3: Finish Transfer into Google Domains
Now you’ll want to head back over to the Google Domains page you have open and click on Refresh to check the domain again. Proceed forward and when it asks you for your EPP code, enter the Auth Code from weebly. You will be asked to pay for one additional year which will add 365 days to the current expiration date listed in Weebly. You will also have access to free privacy control on the domain through Google Domains.
Make sure to select Detect and import my domain’s current settings so that your website does not experience service interruption during the transfer.
Congratulations! Your domain is now transferred to Google Domains.
